Quest for the Spear is the TV movie that started The Librarian franchise and starring Noah Wyle as title character Flynn Carsen. Flynn is a perpetual college student with 22 academic degrees (in fact Flynn with his intellect is interchangeable to Wyle’s Falling Skies character Tom Mason).
Due to Flynn’s multiple degrees he gets thrown out of college on the basis that he needed to have real experience outside of college.
Soon Flynn becomes The Librarian and the focus of this adventure is the Spear of Destiny and what ensures is a very fun adventure from the moment Nicole Noone (Sonya Walger) turns up.
Coincidentally whilst watching this TV movie, I have been reading the Third Doctor Doctor Who short story, the similarly named The Spear of Destiny and as indicated in its title, this Doctor Who story also dealt with the Spear of Destiny.
A very good debut for The Librarian which has been complemented well by the villians primarily the ones played by Kyle MacLachlan and Kelly Hu.
It has been said that The Librarian is like a precursor of Warehouse 13. In fact Kelly Hu later popped up in six episodes of Warehouse 13. Whether this was completely coincidental or someone just happened to remember seeing her in the first instalment of The Librarian is something I can only wonder.
